Oxford claim big Boat Race win
31st March, 2008
Oxford powered to a six-length victory over Cambridge in the 154th annual boat race on Saturday. The 22-second win was the slowest winning time in over 60 years, not helped by choppy waters.
The race was not as clear-cut throughout as it may have seemed by the end, with Cambridge actually pulling ahead under Hammersmith Bridge, but it did not take long for the Dark Blues to hit back.
Oxford made their huge weight advantage count, crossing the line in 20 minutes 2 seconds, beating their rivals for the fifth time in seven years. The series now stands at 79-74, with one dead heat in 1877. Most would say they were definitely value to money - with VC Bet offering 4/6 days before the race.
