Owen's Man United Chances.
20th July, 2009
Manchester United striker Michael Owen, who notched the winning goal on his debut for the Red Devils in their 3-2 triumph over a Malaysia XI on Saturday, is a 20/1 chance with Totesport and Victor Chandler to finish the 2009/10 Barclays Premier League season as leading scorer.
Owen, who found the net with six minutes remaining in Kuala Lumpur, is as short as 14/1 in a market headed by Liverpool striker Fernando Torres. The Spanish star is the 4/1 favourite with a number of bookmakers including Betfred and Stan James.
Given the public interest in Owen's shock summer switch to Old Trafford there are a number of markets on offer relating to the 29-year-old's prospects while Sportingbet make his new side 19/10 favourites to land a fourth successive Premier League crown.
Owen can be backed at 8/11 with Sky Bet to bag 10 Premier League goals or more but Totesport are more sceptical about his chances. The Wigan-based firm go 6/5 about him reaching double figures for the campaign and also make Owen a 2/1 poke to find the net in either Premier League match against one of his former clubs, United's arch rivals Liverpool.
Looking further ahead and Owen is 5/2 to be named in Fabio Capello's 2010 World Cup squad, 33/1 to be crowned PFA Player of the Year and a 66/1 shot to score the winning goal in the FA Cup final.
