Online betting odds for the next Middlesbrough manager

21st October, 2009

Tuesday night saw former Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate get abruptly sacked by Middlesbrough chairman despite winning 2-0 against Derby Country. Gibson spoke shortly after his actions declaring that it was the most difficult decision that he has ever made throughout his football career and insisted that he was sure that Gareth would shortly find a new challenge that he would excel in.

It seems that bookies are backing Gordon Strachan to be his replacement. A spokesmen from Sky Bet explained, “Speculation is building that Boro bosses already have someone lined up to succeed Southgate, with strong rumours circulating that Gordon Strachan could be in place imminently and the immediate and substantial support for the Scot does nothing to dispel those rumours.”

The former Celtic manager was originally priced at 1/2 making him the clear favourite, but after there was an abnormal surge in betting with the majority of bets being over three figures, it forced bookies such as Sky Bet to shorten his odds to 1/3, however Ladbrokes are offering a slightly better price for the Scottish manager backing him at 10/11 to replace Southgate.

Other potential managers that bookies are backing include, second favourite Alan Irvine backed at 5/1 with Ladbrokes, former West Ham manager backed at 8/14 with Sky Bet, Paul Ince priced at 10/1 with Ladbrokes and Kevin Keegan at 12/1 with Sky Bet.
