Online betting odds for the new Scotland manager
19th November, 2009
After the sacking of George Burley on Monday, due to continuous poor performance and results from the club and finishing with a 3-0 loss to Wales, there has been excessive speculation as to who will take on the position.
There have been a lot of names dropped into the equation with Owen Coyle being one of the main names from the start. Coyle has been recognised in the football industry as one of the brightest and most successful managers in the game and is the ideal manager that Scotland are looking for to pursue their chances and to try and get their game back on track. However, yesterday Coyle explained that his future lies with Burnley, simply saying, “There’s nothing to be said about Scotland, I’m the Burnley manager and that’s it.”
This is not the first time that Coyle has been approached to rescue a club, but he has severely highlighted his passion and happiness at Turf Moor and ensures us that this still remains the case. He continued to explain, “I love it at Burnley, my job is here and that’s what I will look to continue to do.”
As it seems Coyle is somewhat out of the question, eyes have turned to Walter Smith who was once in the position from 2004 to 2007. Rangers’ midfielder Kevin Thompson displayed his admiration for his boss at the Ibrox and went on to say, “He is a top manager and I’m sure I speak on behalf of all the punters and players when I say we wouldn’t want to lose him.”
Dragons Den star Theo Paphitis was chairman of Millwall for 8 years and understands the importance of having the best manager in place as he described that the next candidate must have the ‘perfect profile’ and succeed George Burnley.
Papthitis showed his understanding of the game explaining that it is important that Scotland don’t focus on all the negative statistics and went on to say, “Football is an emotional and an all-consuming business. To be the man who has to assume responsibility for carrying a nation's hopes and expectations on his shoulders is an awesome burden. The successful candidate who would make me say, 'I'm in', would be the one who understands he's more important than Alex Salmond and Holyrood.”
Online bookies Blue Square is offering the best price of 9/4 that Craig Levein will steal the position making him favourite with John Collins reasonably priced as second favourite at 7/2. Looking at the views on Walter Smith, he looks a money making bet at 5/1 with Blue Square.
