Online betting odds for Jermain Defoe in the World Cup 2010

24th November, 2009

Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe has proved himself a star after the 9-1 Premier League win against Wigan on Sunday and Harry Redknapp praised the star, naming him the best finisher in the country!

Defoe scored 5 goals during the match, bringing his total goals for the Premier League up to 11, and he now has dreams to be playing for the Champions League next season which will open up the chance for him to get his hands on the Golden Boot title! Defoe explained his excitement to play in the Champions League stating, “It is a competition where you’re playing against the best, and I’d be playing against the best defenders in the world in a great competition.”

The 27 year old scored 64 goals in 177 appearances last season and this season is on track to beat this having currently scored 16 goals from only 22 games! Defoe explained the importance of learning from the best and admitted that he watch video clips on YouTube of some of the best strikers in the world to help him prepare himself. He went on to say, “I watched some of Clive’s goals on YouTube and it’s important to do that to learn. He got 49 goals in one season and that is unbelievable. If I did that I don’t know what I would do. I have spoken to great strikers like Les Ferdinand and Ian Wright. Wrighty tells me no matter how many you score, always try to get another right until the final whistle. I’ve got that mentality now to try and get more.”

It seems that this mentality that Defoe has adopted is working very well for him and his recent success has meant the Michael Owen has been left in the dark, with bookies slashing his odds of being taken to the world cup. Sky Bet are offering 1/10 that Michael Owen does not make the squad in 2010.

Online bookies Paddy Power is confident that Defoe will have a guaranteed seat on the plane and is offering 1/16 that Fabio Capello selects the striker. Bookies Blue Square is offering odds of 4/1 that Defoe is the top goalscorer in the finals.
