Kel Mansfield of the Racing & Football Outlook Preview of Weekend Racing & Tips:
A Tingle of excitement
Paul Nicholls has finally decided to save his Gold Cup winner Kauto Star for the Stan James King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day but the champion trainer will still have a powerful hand in the paddypower.com Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown on Saturday with the up and coming Twist Magic and the seriously underrated Hoo La Baloo.
The trailblazing Ashley Brook and the free running grey Monet's Garden will ensure that the Tingle Creek is run at a searching a pace and that the race lives up to its reputation for providing one of the most exciting spectacles of the season. There is no finer sight in jump racing than a field of top class chasers flying over the famous Railway Fences at Sandown.
Voy Por Ustedes who chased home Kauto Star in the Tingle Creek 12 months is ago strongly fancied to go one better this time. Unlike last year Alan King’s Champion Chase victor has the benefit of a recent outing and he looked better than ever when just failing to concede the useful Kalca Mome 26lbs at Cheltenham three weeks ago.
The Tingle Creek card gets underway with a competitive novices hurdle. Paul Nicholls’ Hell’s Bay has a huge reputation and is sure to be a warm order to make a winning jumping debut but I was impressed by County Zen when he won at Ascot a fortnight ago and he could represent better value.
Whatever Hell’s Bay's fate don't oppose his stablemate The Tother One in the next. The unbeaten gelding was never out of second gear at Newbury last Sunday and he is a handicap certainty.
Finding the paddypowerpoker.com Handicap Hurdle is a harder task but Ring The Boss, another very easy recent Newbury scorer, should go well.
Delray Beach is the one to be on in Sunday’s highlight, the Persimmon Homes Scottish Borders National at Kelso.
Ferdy Murphy’s mare proved she was the ideal type for this gruelling stamina test when landing the Northumberland National over the same trip at Hexham in November.
- Weekend Banker - The Tother One 3.40 Sandown Friday or 1.30 Sandown Saturday
- Saturday value - County Zen 12.55 Sandown
- Sunday Special - Delray Beach 1.50 Kelso
This week's reccomended bookie: Betfred (£100 free bet).
