Murray out of world top 20

7th April, 2008

Andy Murray has, as predicted, dropped out of the top 20 in the world tennis rankings after his second-round loss to Mario Ancic in the Sony Ericsson Open. The British number one slipped nine places to 22nd in the official world rankings, but remains eight palce in the ATP race, which ranks performances in this calendar year. This ranking is helped by two tour wins this year – the Quatar Open and Open 13.

Nadal has closed the gap on Federer by reaching the finals in Miami, and after a few poor performances recently from the world number one he may be beginning to look over his shoulder. The reigning Wimbledon champion is shorter than evens with some bookmakers to win Wimbledon 2008, whilst Murray is from 12/1 to 16/1 with Sporting Bet.
