Murray loses out to Haas

20th March, 2008

Andy Murray has crashed out of the Pacific Life Open after surrendering a one set lead to Tommy Haas.

The British number one went down 2-6 7-5 6-3 to the German after starting strongly. The Scot broke in the third and fifth games to take a dominant opening set.

Murray’s serve let him down in the second set as the German strolled to a 4-1 lead, and despite recovering the break instantly, Haas repeated his performance to level the game. Murray then scuppered five break points in the deciding game and then served out for the match.

Murray commented on his performance: "It was better than yesterday, that's for sure. I got annoyed a couple of times but that was more because I was playing a bit defensive and wasn't quite finding a way to get on the offensive in the third set. But the mindset was way better today than it was yesterday. I was much calmer at the start of the match."

Federer remains favourite to win the title at below evens, with Djokovic a clear second favourite at 9/4 with most bookmakers. Nadal and Nalbanian are at best odds of 9/1 each, according to our odds comparison service.
