Murray defeated in straight sets

24th April, 2008

British number one Andy Murray has been dumped out of the Monte Carlo Masters after being dominated 6-0 6-4 by Novak Djokovic.

The Scot failed to find any sort of form early on, and his lack of confidence on clay showed from the beginning. Murray played very defensively, choosing to play from deep towards the baseline. This let the third seed in close far too often and the British hopeful paid for his style of play.

The Serbian looked stronger from the outset, and quickly picked up the first few games without too much bother. Murray did seem to pick up his game slightly towards the end of the set, but this did not stop the onslaught as the Djokovic took the first set 6-0.

In the second set, Djokovic held serve but then let Murray claim his serve and then break to give him a 2-1 advantage. Had the Scot held his nerve he may well have taken it to a deciding set, but the higher-ranked player showed why he is exactly that and immediately broke back. Murray claimed one more game before going down 6-4 in the second set to finish off his mediocre clay court appearance.

The Serbian has now shortened from 8/1 to 13/2 to win the tournament after his impressive display according to our live updating odds comparison service.

Federer and Nadal are through to the last eight, and with the poor form he has shown recently, Federer is out to 6/1 to win the tournament with Boylesports, whilst Nadal is odds-on at 1/2 with Betfred.
