Murray claims huge win over Federer

4th March, 2008

Unseeded British number one Andy Murray has claimed a huge scalp to beat Roger Federer in the first round of the Dubai Open Tennis Championships. The Scot won in three sets, 6-7 (6-8) 6-3 6-4, and even wasted a set point in the first.

The 20 year-old star produced some sparkling tennis and did not face a single break point throughout the whole game. His own breaks on the second and third set sealed a stylish and memorable win.

Head-to-head Murray is now leading, winning their last two meetings to make it 2-1, also meaning Federer has lost his last two matches after his semi-final defeat to Djokovic in the Australian Open.

Despite being unseeded, the bookies make Murray second favourite to win the Championship after defeating Federer. Skybet have the best odds at 7/2, with the favourite Djokovic at 9/4 according to our odds comparison service.
