Murray, US Open Odds
27th July, 2009
British tennis star, Andy Murray, has arrived in the United States and is ready to start his U.S Open series challenge.
Murray, who is ranked number three in the world, is due to play next month’s Masters 1000 events in Montreal and Cincinnati ahead of the U.S Open.
Murray, 22, won the Masters’ Series event at Cincinnati last year and then reached the final of the U.S Open at Flushing Meadows in New York.
However, on his Grand Slam Final debut, he was defeated comprehensively by the majestic, Roger Federer 6–2, 7–5, 6–2.
The Dunblane native is eager to obtain more success across the pond and believes that the U.S Open represents his best chance of winning a major trophy. The quick American hard courts are ideally suited to Murray’s aggressive baseline play and ever improving serve.
After winning 12 career titles on the ATP tour circuit, many observers within the tennis world expect the talented Murray to now be consistently challenging for the top honours within the sport.
The recent Wimbledon Semi-final defeat to Andy Roddick will make, the very determined Murray, aim to silence any critics he may have, by showing that he can go all the way in a grand slam tournament.
Despite this determination, bookmakers Bet365 still favour Federer to win at 6/4 after his Wimbledon performance, with Murray’s odds to lift the trophy in at 5/2.
