More People Bet Rather Than Vote In General Election

31st March, 2010

According to online betting company, Betfair, the amount of bets placed on the 2010 UK General Election has skyrocketd after the election ramps up and the debates begin.

Punters have been asking for odds not just on the usual markets available but on hundreds of individual constituencies and on which parties will lose deposits in those seats. Due to this high demand, betfair has responded by offering 1,300 betting markets for the election making it the largest one off even in the company’s history in terms of the amount of betting opportunities for punters.

It seems that the general public would prefer to stay in and bet on the General Election rather than go out and vote themselves!

Betfair spokesman Mike Robb said: “We are seeing unprecedented demand for politics betting ahead of the upcoming UK General Election, with our Market Operations team being overwhelmed by the volume of requests for specific bets."

“A number of customers have called us asking whether or not the betting markets will be open through polling day, saying that they would rather stay in and bet on the election than head out and vote."

“It gave us great pleasure to let them know that they would be able to bet right until the race is won, but we also encouraged them to get out and vote first!”

For all the UK General Election Betting Odds go to the Betfair website, you can earn a £25 no lose bet by opening a new account.
