More Injury Woes For English Cricket Team
4th September, 2007
England's string of injuries to key players continues, with Andrew Flintoff experiencing a recurrence of his left ankle injury, and Ravi Bopara sustaining a dislocated right thumb and minor fracture after dropping Gautam Gambir off his own bowling.
This comes less than a week before England are due to leave for the World Twenty20 championships in South Africa. One-day captain Paul Collingwood said "Freddie is coming to training on Tuesday, as is Ravi, but the medical staff will assess them over the next couple of days and make a decision."
England called up uncapped Sussex all-rounder Luke Wright for the final two matches of the one-day series, which England lead 3-2.
Seamer Chris Tremlett has also been ruled out of the sixth match because of a foot injury, but fellow bowler Ryan Sidebottom has been cleared to rejoin the squad after proving his fitness following a side strain problem.
