Mick McCarthy set to get charged by the FA

18th December, 2009

Earlier on this week Manchester United entertained Wolves thrashing them 3-0, and since the game there has been a lot of talking about the team that Wolves Manager Mick McCarthy played.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson congratulated the Wolves after the game saying, “Wolves put up a good show considering they had most of their second string out.”

This is the problem that has sent questions flying about why McCarthy made the choice he did. However, it is understandable that McCarthy wanted to keep a fit team for their game against Burnley on Sunday but it was a drastic change which saw 10 players swapped from the gamed played previously to United which saw Wolves win against Tottenham 1-0.

Online bookies Sky Bet is offering 9/2 that McCarthy will be charged by the FA and a price of 1/8 that he will escape the charge. In addition, Sky Bet has cut his odds of him being the next managed to leave his post from 12/1 to 8/1.

A spokesman from Sky Bet explained, “We’re used to seeing players rested but never a complete team before. Whilst McCarthy will rightly receive short-term criticism, if Wolves survive their first year in the top flight, he will be hailed a hero.”

Despite the bookies backing him to get charged, it now looks unlikely that he will face severe punishment. A spokesman from the club defended the manager explaining, “We have a squad system at the club and Mick picked what he thought was the best side for that match.”
