Michael Dawson set for the World Cup 2010
29th December, 2009
After recent success at Tottenham Hotspurs, manager Harry Redknapp has highlighted the potential for the defender Michael Dawson to reach the World Cup 2010.
It would not be the first time that Michael Dawson has been called into the England squad, however he has been unable to win a cap and he was put on standby for the last World Cup in 2006 but never managed to secure a seat on the plane to Germany.
Manager Redknapp explained, “Michael’s been in great form, he’s showing England form.” He went on to say, “In the form he’s in at the moment, he could well break into the England squad.”
Sky Bet have decided to release odds on Dawson to reach the World Cup 2010, pricing him at 6/1 to be chosen by Fabio Capello and he is backed at 12/1 to play for England in South Africa.
Redknapp continued to praise the defender saying, “He’s a leader, good in the air, a great defender and can pass it. I certainly think if any player was going to force their way in he is a possibility.”
A spokesman from Sky Bet said, “With injuries to Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate this season it has allowed Dawson to really show his true talent. If he can stay fully fit he may just be called upon to cover Rio Ferdinand, who is still struggling with an ongoing back injury.”
