Mayweather vs. Pacquiao

9th December, 2009

American boxing superstar, Floyd Mayweather Jnr, has started the war of words with Filipino Manny Pacquiao ahead of their planned March battle for the pound for pound championship of the world.

Both fighters claim to hold the mythical title of being the best fighters amongst all the different weight classes. Mayweather retired in December 2007, after knocking out Britain’s Ricky Hatton and since then, Manny Pacquiao has been thought of as the best fighter in the world after a string of fantastic victories over Marquee fighters like: Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto.

However, Mayweather returned to the sport in October to defeat Mexican great Juan Manuel Marquez on points. The American believes he should still be regarded as the best fighter in the world as he has never lost and chose to leave the sport.

The fight is expected to break all kinds of revenue records for gate receipts and pay per view television buys and is likely to be held at the Dallas Cowboys NFL stadium in Arlington, Texas or the MGM Grand in Las Vegas; the Superdome in New Orleans is also in contention to stage the fight.

The five-weight world champion told American channel HBO, “Pacquiao's a good fighter but I've been around the sport a long time and I've dominated boxing for around 15 years now. No-one has defeated me yet so we'll have to see. The thing is, I don't want the fans to be really shocked by what will happen when we do happen to meet up because it's not going to be anything new - he's been knocked out before and he's taken losses. I'll be victorious, you can believe it."

To win the fight Floyd Mayweather is 4/6 with Sky Bet while Manny Pacquiao is 7/5 with SportingBet. The draw is 28/1 with Sky Bet.
