Mayweather – ‘I’m better than Ali’

23rd November, 2007

With two weeks to go until his ‘superfight’ against Ricky Hatton, the undefeated welterweight has stepped up his war of words by claiming to be better than the legends Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammed Ali.

The 30-year-old will fight in Vegas on the 8th December said: "I can quit today and be known as the best fighter that ever lived. I respect what Robinson and Ali did for the sport. But I am the greatest, and this is my time."

Hatton has held the world titles at welterweight and light-welterweight, is also undefeated with Jose Luis Castillo and Kostya Tszyu the most notable victims of ‘The Hitman’.

Mayweather similarly has big names under his belt, beating the likes of Castillo, Oscar de la Hoya, DeMarcus Corley, Zab Judah and Sharmba Mitchell. He called the Briton’s style as “dirty” and one-dimentional, claiming he doesn’t have a chance. He went on: "I didn't get the chance to watch him against Kostya Tszyu," said Mayweather. "I already knew what it was - punch, hold, punch, hold. From what I've seen, it was extremely dirty. And that's what I'm saying - that Ricky Hatton is a very dirty fighter."
