Martins Staying Put

24th October, 2007

Obafemi Martins has moved to rubbish reports claiming he is unhappy at Newcastle United under Sam Allardyce. The tough competition for places at St James' Park has meant that Martins has not played as many games as he may have wished, with Viduka and Owen stating their claim to start for the Magpies.

The former Inter striker has been linked with a move away from the premiership back to Italy's Serie A, with Juventus apparently showing interest in the player. However, Martins told the Daily Express "I'm very happy and settled at Newcastle, I don't take any notice of the stories saying I'll leave, and if Sam Allardyce is here for five years I will be here for five years as well. That is how much I enjoy playing for him. I don't think I'll be going anywhere while Sam is here."

Martins is 18/1 (with Totesport) to be the Premiership's top scorer this season, and after Newcastle's recent good form, they are now second favourites at 4/1 (with Totesport) to finish highest in the Premiership behind the big four (Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool).
