Man United set sites for the top
8th November, 2007
Following a convincing 4-0 win against Dynamo Kiev, Manchester United have reached the knock out stages. In order to win the group, Man Utd have to beat Sporting Lisbon in their next match. Goals from Pique, Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo secured maximum points from their four games.
Ferguson believes that his players are good enough to go all the way this season and put their prior failures down to fatigue. He has been carefully choosing who plays in the matches and who is well rested so that he has a fighting chance of coming through. Owen Hargreaves, Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand were all non starters in the Dynamo Kiev match with Ferguson insisting that they had played hard following matches against Arsenal and others recently.
There were some minor injuries, Dutch goalie Edwin van der Sar was taken off at half time with a sore toe, but it is believed the toe will be healed in time for Sundays clash against Blackburn.
Gary Neville also had pain in his leg which was feared to be the recurrence of a previous calf injury which kept him benched recently. They are being cautious and he should be fit after Sundays match.
United have now been chopped to 6/1 with bet365 to win the Champions League, with Barca still favourites after their 2-0 win over Rangers, at odds of around 4/1.
