20th November, 2009

In the biggest match of the weekend, Liverpool face Manchester City at Anfield and both teams will want to cut the deficit on the teams above them in the Premier League table.

Manchester City and Liverpool lie in sixth and seventh place respectively in the table and are both desperate to finish in the top four and gain a place in the illustrious Champions League. The game has the potential to show who has the credentials of battling all the way through until May.

Liverpool will be boosted with the news that their skipper, Steven Gerrard, will return after recovering from a groin injury. The Reds have had to play some big games without Gerrard recently and he is very eager to get back out on the pitch. He told the club’s official website "Some of the lowest points in my career have come about when I have had to miss big games for Liverpool and England through injury," he also added. "It's never easy when you have to sit out games against Manchester United or trips away from home in the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz, has admitted that the pressure is on Liverpool to perform as they are at home and below them in the league. He told Sky Sports "Our main aim is to be in one of the Champions League places by finishing in the top four. So we need to go to Liverpool and prove we can take one of those places they want to be involved in.

In terms of team news for Liverpool, Fernando Torres is injured and will be replaced by David Ngog. For City, Gareth Barry should return from a groin injury, while it is unlikely Robinho will feature as he is not quite ready to play yet as he recovers from an ankle injury.

To win the match, Liverpool is 19/20 with Totesport while Manchester City is 7/2 with Ladbrokes. The draw is 12/5 with Ladbrokes.
