Liverpool Owners get Dubai Ultimatum

4th March, 2008

It has been reported this morning that Dubai International Capital has given Liverpool FC’s owners 24 hours to accept an offer for buy the club.

Liverpool’s American owners George Gillet and Tom Hicks have apparently been forced into choosing quickly whether they will accept the reported £400m bid for control of the club. DIC have already confirmed that they had been in talks with the duo: "It's no secret that we have been in discussions with the current owners," said DIC chief executive Sameer al-Ansari. It's not easy because (they) are in dreamland about valuations."

Hicks and Gillett have become increasingly unpopular at Anfield following the treatment of their manager Rafael Benitez, and the announcement that £105m of debt has been loaded onto the club through a refinancing deal.
