Liverpool Cruise into Champions League Quarter-Finals
12th March, 2008
The Premier League now has every representative through to the last eight of the Champions League, for the first time in the competition’s history. Liverpool were the final team to book their place with last night’s 1-0 (3-0 on aggregate) victory over Inter Milan.
Liverpool went to the San Siro with a two-goal first-leg advantage, but knew they would have to perform to keep the Italians from scoring. They did just that with fine goalkeeper, defending and attacking prowess. Inter may feel slightly hard done by after having a man sent off for second yellow offences in both legs, but Liverpool will feel they deserved to progress overall.
Torres sealed Milan’s fate after the 50th minute sending off, when he neatly finished Aurelio’s pass from the edge of the box in the 64th minute.
England are now huge favourites to be the winning nation at best odds of 2/5 with Bet 365. The nearest rivals are Spain (10/3), who has second favorites Barcelona still in the tournament. Manchester United remain favorites to win the competition at 10/3, with Chelsea and Arsenal at the same price (5/1) and Liverpool closer to 6/1 according to our free odds comparison service.
