Kiwis upset the Aussies in RLWC
24th November, 2008
Wow is the only world I can think of to describe the Rugby League World Cup Final. The Aussies and Kiwis did not disappoint in terms of drama. From the starting kick off to the 80 minute buzzer I was hooked like millions of other viewers.
Like many had thought Australia started on the front foot and soon opened up a 10 -0 lead over their opponents. However new Zealand were in no way willing to lie down and let Australia walk all over them.
After going in at half time trailing 16-12 Stephen Kearney, New Zealand coach must have given one inspirational speech. For when the second half started the Kiwis looked to take the game to Australia. In the Competitions 54 year history the cup had never been take back to New Zealand, but this was soon rectified by the ‘black and whites’.
Their strength in defence seemed to double, and their attacks were more controlled and deliberate in every move. Before long New Zealand had turned the score to 18 -16 and proceed to mount pressure. The game then went from bad to worse for the Australians with the Kiwis leading by 10 points they needed to convert twice to retain their title, but fate did not shine. Well at least not on the Aussies as the final score for the second half was 22-4 to New Zealand a great turnaround resulting in the 34-22 defeat of the champions and ending Australia’s dominance in the world of rugby League.
I can only say well done to the faithful fans you stuck by their team and have received the rewards of betting on New Zealand. The odds were 1/10 Austraila and 11/2 New Zealand with Bet 365 which i'm sure made that smle on fans faces extend that little bit more.
For the rest of us who didn’t have faith and were not willing to put our money on the line, it serves us right. We should have had more belief in the ‘black and whites’ ability.
They say “the wolf climbing the hill is always hungrier than the wolf already sitting at the top.” New Zealand defiantly proved they wanted it more.
