Khan vs. Salita Online Betting Odds

2nd December, 2009

On Saturday night Amir Khan will step back into the ring to make the first defence of his WBA light-welterweight championship of the world, against New York based Ukrainian Dmitriy Salita in Newcastle.

Khan captured the title in July by beating Andreas Kotelnik and is now on a three bout winning streak since his brutal 60 second knockout defeat to Breidis Prescott in September last year.

After that defeat Khan hired Freddie Roach who is arguably one of the greatest trainers in the world and has based himself in Los Angeles. Khan has also been training with Manny Pacquiao the world's best pound-for-pound fighter who is also based at Roach’s Wildcard Gym.

Khan told BBC Sport how the defeat changed him. "It has probably changed my life inside and outside the boxing ring. I take the sport more seriously and I am totally dedicated to boxing now. I can't wait to fight, and show the public, and show my fans how much I have learned in the last 12 months. I want to keep hold of this world title as long as I can, defend it a lot of times and win more world titles on top of it."

Meanwhile, Khan’s opponent Salita insists that the champion has a glass jaw and that he will defeat him. The number one contender also said that he will overcome the technical adjustments Khan has made under the guidance of Roach and has criticised his preparations. Khan has been travelling a lot during his training camp, as Freddie Roach was in Las Vegas for Pacquiao’s recent victory over Miguel Cotto then he returned to England.

Salita told Sky Sports "As I see it Amir's camp has been unstable with Freddie not being there, travelling to Vegas to train. It's fun - but it's not the ideal training atmosphere. He is a skinny guy, just the way he is built, there is nothing that he can do about it. He has made adjustments and obviously I watch tape and see what it is.

To win the Fight Khan is 1/6 with Betfred while Salita is 9/2 with a host of book makers. The draw is 33/1 with betinternet.
