Khan vs. Salita Boxing Odds
9th October, 2009
Amir Khan is set to defend his WBA light-welterweight title against unbeaten Ukrainian Dmitriy Salita. The bout will take place in Newcastle and shall happen on December 5th.
The 22 year old from Lancashire will be making his first defence of the title since defeating Andreas Kotelnik in July.
His opponent, the New-York based Ukrainian Salita, has an excellent record with 30 victories and one draw. The 27 year olds last fight was in May, where he outpointed American Raul Munoz. The WBA’s mandatory challenger is nicknamed 'The Star of David' and has been a professional since 2001.
Khan’s promoter Frank Warren told BBC Sport: "Salita's got a great record, he's unbeaten and carries a big punch and of course he will pose a threat to Amir, but Amir's a world-class fighter and has to deal with these challengers."
The bout will happen at the Metro Radio Arena and will be the first time Khan will have fought in the North East. Khan will join many of British boxing’s big names, who have also fought in Newcastle. The list includes Joe Calzaghe, Naseem Hamed, Ricky Hatton and Nigel Benn.
Warren also said "For Amir's first defence this is a very tough fight. He's taking on a fighter the American media are really building up at the moment."
Khan has only lost once in 22 professional contests. The defeat was 13 months ago when Colombia's Breidis Prescott knocked him out inside the first minute of their lightweight fight.
Sky Bet backs Khan to win at 1/8, with Salita backed at 9/2. A draw is priced at 33/1.
