Kaka Named Best Player in the World
3rd December, 2007
AC Milan star Kaka can now be called officially the best player in the world after being awarded the Balon d’Or.
The Brazilian ace won by a landslide 444 votes, almost double that of second placed Christiano Ronaldo of Manchester United, with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi placing third.
Kaka said: "It was an exceptional year for me and the Balon d'Or crowns an extraordinary 2007. "I want to thank God who allowed me to be here today. I thank my wife, my parents and Milan, the team that allowed me to win. "I have to thank my coach Carlo Ancelotti, who has always given me confidence, always played me, even in difficult times over these four years. "I want to become the captain of this team and I think the best person to learn from is Paolo Maldini."
The highly-rated award was previously knows at the Eurpoean Player of the Year award, but the organizers, France Football, recently extended the competition to include players from around the world.
Celtic will face the already-qualified Milan, looking for just a point to take them through to the next round of the Champions League. A £10 bet on Kaka to score first in a 2-2 draw returns £670 with Bet 365.
