Johnson set to become England Manager

4th April, 2008

Martin Johnson, England’s most recent World Cup winning captain, has reportedly agreed to become the England rugby squad’s new manager.

He is said to have demanded total control of the team up to the next World Cup in 2011, and it set to be confirmed by the RFU kingpins by Tuesday.

Ashton will not be completely ousted, retaining some involvement with the team. Senior members of the RFU are supposedly keen to get the coaching team finalised ahead of the tour of New Zealand in the summer.

England are fourth favourites to win the next Rugby World Cup at best odds of 16/1 with Totesport, despite reaching the final in the last two campaigns, and winning the competition in 2003. Smart money would back them now and lock in a profit after the first few games which England should progress through without any problems.
