John Terry Breaks Three Bones
18th December, 2007
England and Chelsea captain John Terry has broken three bones in his foot after a challenge from Emmanuel Eboue in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.
He now may miss the friendly with Switzerland on 6th Feburary, after club doctor Bryan English told Chelsea TV: "I would imagine he will be out for a minimum of six weeks. An X-ray taken immediately after John left the field did not show the injury. The fractures, which include his third metatarsal, were revealed following scans performed on Monday afternoon."
The injury has not come at a good time for the player or Chelsea, who have other star players out through injury and will face a tough start to the new year. Terry may also now be worried about retaining his captaincy after new England coach Fabio Copello refused to cofirm that he will continue as skipper.
Eboue caught the defender after leaving a foot dangling, which Terry cleared and followed through to kick the underside of the Arsneal player’s boot. Chelsea striker Soloman Kalou did releave that the Ivorian apolagised to Terry for tackle: "I was saying to Eboue that it was a red card because he did it on purpose - but he denied that. He said he tried to block the ball and it was not on purpose. He said sorry to John. He didn't mean to do it but to apologise was a nice thing to do.”
"John will be a big loss and is very important to the squad. We will miss him and it will be difficult to do it without him but we have the players to do that."
