Joe McElderry wins X-Factor 2009 but it could be the last show!

14th December, 2009

X-Factor never fails to attract excessive attention and this year is no different, however, now that the winner has been revealed of X-Factor 2009, there are doubts that the famous reality TV show will return to our screens next year.

Last night saw teenager Joe McElderry crowned the winner of the reality show, making it the second year that mentor and Judge Cheryl Cole has had a winning act. Over 20 million people tuned in last night to watch the battle between the final two, before the 18 year old stole the show over runner up Olly Murs.

McElderry was totally shocked with the result and could only manage to mutter, “I can’t speak, thank you so much everyone!” Mentor Cheryl Cole went on to say, “I’m over the moon the right person won.”

Despite the show interviewing over 200,000 entrants and entertaining some 20 million viewers, with 10 million voting (more than the last general election), there has been doubt that the show will go on. There has been considerable speculation after Judge and producer Simon Cowell failed to reveal whether or not the show would make a return next year. There were also rumours that Danni Minogue might resign after a very turbulent 3 years on the show but she spoke out yesterday strongly denying the accusations!

In addition, the founder of the show is also rumoured to not appear on the judging panel next year as he has made it clear that it is important to lose a judge to ensure that a decision is made, rather than always sending the vote to deadlock.

Online bookies Sky Bet is offering odds on the show returning to terrestrial television next year and has priced the odds at 20/1, with odds of 5/1 that Simon Cowell steps down from the judging panel.

For more prices, including odds of 1/5 that Joe McElderry steals the Christmas number one this year, then visit Sky Bet and get your hands on a FREE £10 bet!
