Joe Cole looks set to stay at Chelsea

18th January, 2010

There has been a lot of discussion on where Chelsea’s Joe Cole will be at the end of the January transfer window and the chairman at Chelsea is hoping that the England player will renew his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Cole finished his contract in the summer but continued to play for the Blues and after playing against Sunderland this weekend, seeing them win 7-2, it seems as though Cole will be more than happy to stay with the Blues.

The Chairman of Chelsea explained, “I am a big fan of Joe Cole and we are in discussions with his agent, hopefully that will be sorted out soon.”

In addition, it has been reported that manager Carlos Ancelotti will not be signing any new players in this transfer window. It was thought that it was in relation to their ban from signing new players but after appealing the ban has been suspended for this transfer window, leaving the chairman to state that in fact, Chelsea have only signed new players in the January transfer window a couple of times before. He went on to explain, “You don’t just buy players just to buy players. A player has to really suit us and then he has to be available at the right price.”

Online bookies Sky Bet are offering odds on where Joe Cole will be at the end of January and have priced a contract at Stamford Bridge at 4/6 favourite and a price of 11/10 that he decides to leave the Blues.

A spokesman from Sky Bet explained, “Chelsea will be keen to resolve their contract talks with Cole before the end of the season. They have a transfer ban to come and wouldn’t want to risk losing a player like Cole in the summer and not being able to sign a replacement.”
