India Claim World Twenty20 Title
24th September, 2007
In the World Twenty20 final, India beat Pakistan to clinch their first major trophy since 1983. Pakistan bowled well, with the likes of Umar Gul (3-28) restricting India to a modest 157-5 after the 20 overs. Pakistan then came into bat, and at 52-2 looked to have taken control of the innings. India then claimed four wickets for 25 runs to put Pakistan at 77-6.
Misbah-ul Haq clawed Pakistan back into the match, with three sixes off Harbhajan Singh and another in the final over, but then tried an elaborate shot over the wicket keeper Dhoni, and instead spooned it into the air, falling to Joginder Sharma to end the thrilling final. With three balls left, Pakistan fell five runs short of the target needed for victory.
