Hutchings gets the chop
5th November, 2007
After six straight defeats, Wigan Athletic have dismissed their manager Chris Hutchings. The Latics have not won since August’s victory at home to the newly-promoted Sunderland, and were more recently knocked out of the Carling Cup by Hull.
Hutchings replaced Paul Jewell who left in the summer after saving the club from relegation on the final day of the season. However he has failed to improve the clubs’ position, and they are currently third from bottom after losing 2-0 to Chelsea at the weekend.
A club statement read: "Wigan Athletic have announced this morning that they have parted company with manager Chris Hutchings with immediate effect. Assistant Manager Frank Barlow will be taking charge of the first team on a caretaker basis, starting with next Sunday's trip to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane. The club wish to put on record their immense gratitude for Chris' efforts, in particular his contribution to the meteoric rise of Wigan Athletic over the past six and a half seasons."
