Hughes to talk with Man City over managerial position

3rd June, 2008

Blackburn manager Mark Hughes has been granted permission by his board to talk to Manchester city about the vacant managerial position at the club, after Sven-Goran Eriksson left the club last week.

A statement released by Blackburn said that City had made an approach to ask to talk to the Welshman, who has guided Rovers into Europe twice in his three-and-a-half years at the club. His work has also rumoured to have attracted interest from his former club Chelsea, who are also without a manager after sacking Avram Grant.

Paddy Power make Hughes 8/15 to be the next permanent Man City manager, with the rest of the market fairly open at this stage. Zico is the next favourite at 13/2, with Allardyce third out at 8/1.

At the same time, Hughes is also favourite to take over at Chelsea at 2/1. Rijkaard remains a popular choice in the market at 5/2, with other rumoured targets Scolari and Mancini at 10/1 and 6/1 respectively.
