Horse Racing Tips for 12th/13th Jan

9th January, 2008

Golden Bere

Gary Moore's Panjo Bere must not be missed in the intercasino.co.uk Lanzarote Handicap Hurdle at Kempton on Saturday. I was at Fontwell when the ex-French gelding made a winning British debut in a 2m2f110yds handicap hurdle in December. He scored with great authority at the Sussex venue and the form is working out extremely well with the 2nd and 3rd both winning decent races since. I spoke to the trainer after his Fontwell win and he told me, "Panjo Bere is a proper horse and will be even better going right-handed."

Petit Robin created an excellent impression when winning at Newbury last month. He was our fancy for last Saturday's Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown but missed the gig and heads to Kempton this weekend instead where he can make up for lost time in the intercasino.co.uk Novices Hurdle.

Souffleur should win the Ballymore Properties Leamington Novices Hurdle at Warwick on Saturday but Peter Bowen's progressive five-year-old will be a skinny price and State Of Play and Naunton Brook are more interesting betting propositions on the same card. The first named is thrown in the Pertempts Handicap Hurdle qualifier on a 49lb lower mark than his chase rating while the latter looks a cracking each-way bet for the Totesport.com Classic Chase after his fine fourth in the Welsh National last time. A small reverse forecast between Naunton Brook and the improving Arnold Layne could also be a rewarding option.

Barker has bite

The Pierse Hurdle at Leopardstown on Sunday is one of the most competitive races of the seasons but we should get a good run for our money with Barker. James Barrett's charge has made great strides recently and could not have been more impressive when bolting home by 6l under top weight from the useful Vaqueras in a 2m handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse last time.

Best bets

  • Weekend Banker - Panjo Bere 3.15 Kempton Saturday.
  • Saturday Specials - Petit Robin 1.45 Kempton. State Of Play 2.00 Warwick. Naunton Brook each-way plus reverse forecast with Arnold Layne 2.30 Warwick.
  • Sunday Wager - Barker 2.25 Leopardstown.

If you haven't already joined, Totesport is an excellent bookie to use for betting on the horses, plus the no-nonsense £25 free bet can come in very handy...
