Holland v France Match Preview
In the Euro 2008 ‘Group of Death’, Holland will be looking to confirm their place top of Group C with a win over France. The Dutch side produced a solid performance to eventually win in style in their first group game, beating world champions Italy 3-0. France on the other hand looked far from the form that saw them reach the World Cup final two years ago. They could only manage a 0-0 draw with Romania, who will be looking to produce the shock of the tournament by progressing from the group.
Whilst Holland will go into the game high in confidence, they would probably settle for a draw which would retain their stranglehold on their group. France will go out there with the mentality that only a win is good enough, and will look to attack from start to finish. They could be punished for this with more superb counter-attacking football from the Dutch as shown against the Italians.
Holland v France Odds and Betting
Holland go into the game as slim favourites at best odds of 7/4 with Paddy Power, whilst France can be grabbed for 2/1 with VC Bet. With the knowledge that France can easily pull out a match-winning performance against any side, this seems like good value. However the match is very hard to call, with the draw at 11/5 also very tempting.
Looking elsewhere for opportunities, over 2.5 goals seems way overpriced at 6/4, with many names more than capable of getting on the scoresheet. Kuyt looked lively in Holland’s first game, and the 14/1 first goalscorer available on him may be worth a punt. The man of the match market may also be worth a look, with names like Ribery (6/1) and Sneijder (6/1) always likely to have a great game.
