David ‘The Hayemaker’ Haye insists that preparations for his WBA heavyweight championship fight with Nikolai Valuev are going very well.
Haye, the former undisputed cruiserweight champion, will challenge the Russian on November 7th in Germany. The Londoner will be aiming to become Britain’s first heavyweight world champion since Lennox Lewis retired.
Valuev, who is nicknamed the Beast from the East, will be looking to utilise the huge physical advantages he has over Haye. Valuev is the tallest and heaviest world champion of all time. At 7ft 2in he weighed in at 310¾lbs for his last bout against Evander Holyfield in December last year.
Meanwhile, Haye is 6ft 3in tall and weighed in at 226lbs for his last contest against Monte Barrett almost a year ago. Haye will be aiming to use his superior speed and aim to catch Valuev clean with his right hand.
After two met at a recent press conference Haye told Sky Sports "I was expecting something freaky and I got something freaky," Haye explained. "His head is literally twice the size of mine. It's quite amusing looking at him, he's like a cartoon character. He really is a huge specimen."
Both fighters have only lost once in their careers and Valuev is adamant that he will not lose his title. "He is a strong challenger but he will not beat me. Haye will try to edge me with his speed but I am prepared for that. He will not get my belt."
Stan James has David Haye to win at 4/7. Tote sport offer 15/8 for Valuev to win. The draw is 33/1 with Blue sq.
