Haye has his odds slashed for BBC Sports Personality of the Year

9th November, 2009

David Haye fulfilled his dreams by returning home with the world championship belt in tow, even if it is too big for him to wear!

The east London based fighter returned back to England and revealed that his surprise victory has “stunned him” and went on to say, “I was expecting a few of my close friends waiting for me when I got home, but the welcome back and support has been extraordinary.”

Although it was reported that there was a lot of support for Haye, with bookmakers Ladbrokes making him favourite, there was excessive faith in the 7ft 2in ‘Beast From The East’, who remained favourite with most other bookies including the likes of Coral.

The final decision which has confirmed David Haye as the next British World Champion since Lennox Lewis, meant that bookies were able to reap a profit which is suspected to be a high six figure sum, after Valuev was backed with over £5 million worth of stakes. Although there were a few punters that won big for backing Haye, in particular a punter staked £16,000 on Haye at the start of the match and managed to make a whopping £14,500 profit after the fight! However, bookies reported that the majority of big stakes were for Valuev as looking at the stats including height, weight and reach, it seemed almost impossible for the Londoner to take down the Russian giant.

After a very successful fight from Haye, bookies believe that he has made Britain proud and after his dedication to fulfil his dreams and represent his country, bookies have slashed his odds to take the title of BBC Sports Personality of the Year priced at 8/1 with Totesport which makes him third favourite behind Jenson Button who is priced at 4/6 with Blue Square and Jessica Ennis who is priced at 4/1 with Bet 365.
