Football over Christmas

15th December, 2008

Well that’s another big weekend of football down.

Some would say it had a bit of an anti climax with the entire top 4 failing to produce the results they needed. Even with bookies odds favouring one or two to leap frog rivals, and propel themselves forward, many fans were left disappointed. However Aston Villa didn’t waste any opportunities in their 4-2 win over Bolton pushing Arsenal down into fifth.

Liverpool Manchester United and Chelsea all drew against their respective opponents at the weekend, leaving managers somewhat baffled with their teams lack of killer instinct. A defiant Spurs team along with a out of form West Ham ensured there were no changes at the top of the table, while Steven Gerrard scored twice to save a defeat by Hull.

Arsenal’s inconsistent performances so far his season, will be tested even further when they play Liverpool this Saturday, giving Aston Villa even more incentive to win again in order to put some daylight between the two. Manchester United will have to be careful with Villa breathing down their necks, they will have to put in a definitive performance on boxing day.

The games to look out for this weekend will be West Ham vs Aston Villa and Liverpool vs Arsenal. Bet365 believe that Arsenal will fit back to win at home, while Villa will take the win on the road.

Bet365

Arsenal vs Liverpool 11/8 21/10 15/8

West Ham vs Aston Villa 9/5 9/4 13/10

Betfair

Arsenal vs Liverpool 1.5/1 2.35/1 2.2/1

West Ham vs Aston Villa 2.1/1 2.5/1 1.44/1

It looks like football is hotting up during the Christmas period as we approach mid season.
