Fenerbahce v Chelsea Preview, Betting, Odds and Tips

2nd April, 2008

Fenerbahce host Chelsea in the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie, in which they play each other for the first time ever.

Chelsea unsurprisingly go into the game as favourites, with the intimidating atmosphere of Istanbul’s Saracoglu Stadium expected to be the only thing to hold them back. The Turkish sides’ coach, Brazilian legend Zico, has predicted that his side need to win the first leg at home if they are to stand any chance of progressing to the next round.

The home side have great form coming into the game, with four straight wins in their domestic league, and five wins from five in their Champions League games at home, including the likes of Inter Milan, Sevilla and PSV.

After admitting that at this stage results come before style, Chelsea boss Avram Grant is expected to field a side that will stop the Turks from attacking as they will undoubtedly be forced to do at home. Chelsea have the best defensive record in the competition this season, going six games without conceding a single goal. They have also proved in recent games that they can score plenty of goals when in the mood.

Fenerbahce have been priced at best odds of around 3/1 to get the win they will be going all-out for. And with such great results so far, this seems like a great value bet. Chelsea will not go all out in this game, so a draw at 2/1 and better also seems attractive. An away win will get you odds of around events with Betfred. Under 1.5 goals at 7/4 with Paddy Power seems like a solid bet for this game.
