Federer vs. Murray Preview
24th November, 2009
Roger Federer and Andy Murray prepare to do battle tonight in the ATP World Tour Finals at the O2 Arena.
Both players will head into the match full of confidence after winning the first of their three group matches. Federer defeated Spain’s Fernando Verdasco while Murray beat reigning U.S Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro. Victory for either player will put them within touching distance of a semi-final spot.
British hope, Murray, will be looking to repeat the 4-6 7-6 7-5 victory he got over Federer within the group stages at last year’s event in Shanghai. However, Murray who holds a winning 6-3 head to head record over the Swiss superstar lost their last encounter at the Cincinnati semi-finals.
The Scot told BBC Sport "You've got to pretty much win two matches out of the three to give yourself a chance," said Murray. "I could still win two and not go through, but I'll try to get the next one out of the way. If I can win that one I'll put myself in a good position."
Meanwhile, Federer is looking to string a series of results together at the event to ensure that he finishes the year as world number one.
Ahead of the clash, Federer spoke about last year’s match and also told BBC Sport that "I was playing incredible for a set, almost got a victory, but I thought it was a very exciting match to be a part of. It was unfortunate for me not to come through but I still think the match was great. I hope we can live up to the expectations and play another good one."
To win the match Roger Federer is 9/10 with Boylesports, while Andy Murray is 1/1 with a host of bookmakers.
