Federer Wins US Open
10th September, 2007
Roger Federer continues to cement his position of world number one with his 10th straight Grand Slam final, with a straight sets victory over Serbian third seed Novad Djokovic in the US Open final. He becomes the first man in history to win the event four years in a row.
Federer dropped only two sets on his way to the final in New York, but the final was not as one-sided as it looks on paper. Djokovic led the first set 6-5, and at 40-0 lost all three set points, eventually losing the set on the tiebreak. In the second he led 4-1, with Federer then breaking back, and Djokovic missing another set point and again going on to losing the tiebreak. Federer went on to win the final set more convincingly in his 7-6 7-6 6-4 victory.
