FA Cup Quarter-Final Round-Up

10th March, 2008

The FA Cup lived up to its reputation as a stage for the underdogs to prevail, as Barnsley, Portsmouth and Cardiff knocked out Chelsea, Manchester United and Middlesbrough respectively.

The odds of such a number of upsets in one year would have been huge as one by one the favourites were knocked out. There is now only one Premier League side remaining in the last four – Portsmouth, who will be joined by Barnsley, Cardiff and West Brom.

Both Chelsea and Manchester United will feel hard-done by, after both dominated their respective games and piled on the pressure throughout the game. Both went down by a single goal, but United’s will be particularly hard to stomach.

West Brom showed their class in a 5-1 win over Bristol Rovers, whilst Cardiff will be over the moon with their 2-0 away win at Middlesbrough. The semi-finals are to be played at Wembley, and the draw is going to be made at 1325 today (Monday).
