Everton up to fourth after win over Man City

26th February, 2008

Everton have reclaimed fourth spot in the Premier League after a 2-0 victory over Man City on Monday night.

The match promised to be a good game as both sides look to challenge for the final Champions League spot, and it started brightly with Yakubu’s shot cleared off the line in just the third minute. The away side could also have then been awarded a penalty after Cahill’s shot came off Richards’ elbow in the box.

Some City pressure was quickly seen off by a solid Everton defence, but the home side looked sloppy at the back, and let Pienaar through to hit the woodwork, before Yakubu finished Cahill’s cross for the opener on 30 minutes.

It didn’t take long for Everton to get their next, with Lescott heading Carsley’s cross past the stranded keeper to make it 2-0 on 38 minutes.

The second half saw little change, with the away side dominating and Man City getting continually frustrated. The home side’s disappointing night was compounded when Petrov was sent off in the final minutes for kicking out at Osman.
