Euro 2008 Final: Germany v Spain Odds, Betting and Tips
27th June, 2008
After 76 goals, 30 games and 22 days of Euro 2008 competition, we are down to the final game. Germany will face Spain in the Ernst Happel Stadion, Vienna, on Sunday 29th June 2008. We take a look at the big game from a betting perspective to add a bit more spice to the match from a neutral's perspective.
Euro 2008 Final Germany v Spain Team News
Spain will be without a key man in the form of David Villa, Euro 2008’s leading goalscorer with four goals. He suffered a thigh problem that saw him substituted in the first half of the semi-final against Russia. Cesc Fabregas will be hoping that his consistent performances will see him included in the starting squad for the final, but there are no guarantees in an awesomely talented Spanish midfield.
Germany have no injury worries ahead of the final, but come into the game off the back of some less than convincing performances.
Euro 2008 Final Germany v Spain Betting Preview
Due to the nature in which both sides reached the final, the bookmakers make Spain the favourites by quite a distance. Despite their poor previous record in the big games, and Germany’s ruthless efficiency, Spain have been priced at around 5/4 to win in 90 minutes. Germany on the other hand look great value at best odds of 5/2 with Paddy Power. The draw will undoubtedly draw some punters who don’t think Spain will have the metal to finish off Germany out at 2.25 with Betfair.
Looking at other markets, with eight goals in the semi-finals, over 2.5 goals at 6/5 and better looks like good value. Another interesting bet may be to take either side to win from behind, priced at 12/1 for Germany and 9/1 for Spain.
Euro 2008 Final Germany v Spain Tips
It’s over.......or is it?
Is the wait is over? 1964, the last time Spain won a trophy as a nation, and on this day in 1964, Roy Orbison’s It’s Over was the Number One single.
Spain meet old rivals Germany in Vienna on Sunday following their impressive 3-0 demolition of the Russians in Vienna. So can Luis Aragones’ men defy history and beat a team seemingly ‘programmed’ to appear in finals on a regular basis ? Certainly the Spaniards have more style, more panache and without a doubt, the classier players. Xavi, Torres and Puyol would all get a place in all of the sides that have competed in this tournament. The BIG BLOW, is that David Villa, the tournaments leading scorer will be missing, having injured himself in the semi.
Germany will be the toughest nut of all to crack and have to be the call on Sunday. They know how to win when it matters most and will be under less pressure.
Back Germany to win in 90 minutes, and spoil the Spanish party. A 2-1 victory is the call with Miroslav Klose to bag the opening goal.
