England vs USA World Cup Betting Odds
4th March, 2010
Peter Crouch certainly staked his claim for a place on the aeroplane to South Africa last night by scoring against Egypt. Sky Bet is now backing him at 13/8 to start up front alongside Wayne Rooney in England’s opening match on June 12th against the USA.
Shaun Wright-Phillips put the England side upfront in the 75th minute last night making odds slash from 5/4 to 5/6 to be included in the final 23 man squad, however Theo Walcott’s odds have been lengthened to 5/4 from 5/6 to be included in Capello’s World Cup squad.
Sky Bet’s football betting spokesman Dale Tempest said: “Crouch’s England goal-scoring record is quite incredible but I’m not sure it will be enough to get him a start against the USA.”
Odds for Robert Green to claim the number one jersey has been cut to 5/4 after his start against Egypt, whilst David James and Joe Hart are joint second favourites at 5/2.
Leighton Baines is now a clear favourite to start at left-back if Ashley Cole were to be absent with Stephen Warnock prices at 8/1 to fill the spot in the opening match. Sky Bet also provides odds on how England’s defence will look on June 12th in Rustenburg. Wes Brown, John Terry, Rio Ferdinand and Ashley Cole look to be most likely to start at 5/2.
It’s also possible to bet on England’s midfield line-up against the states and Sky Bet go 10/3 that it includes Gareth Barry, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Aaron Lennon.
