England vs. Brazil Game News And Match Preview
13th November, 2009
England has travel to Doha in order to tackle Brazil in an international friendly on Saturday, which has caused much annoyance to managers in the Premier League.
Capello will demand total focus and remind all players in the camp that World Cup places are up for grabs. Many will argue that the exercise is pointless however it will be a good indicator of how far the Three Lions squad has come since Fabio Capello has been in charge.
The Brazilians are genuine world class opposition and will be one of the main contenders at next summer’s World Cup finals in South Africa.
However England’s normal starting eleven has been cut down by devastating injury problems. Out of the recent regulars only Wayne Rooney and Gareth Barry are fit to play. Captain John Terry is struggling to play after picking up an ankle injury whilst training.
Capello told BBC Sport “He was running on his own and twisted his ankle. I am confident he will be fit for Saturday," said the 63 year old. "The doctors think so but I won't take a risk. If he is not fit, he will not play."
The Italian manager was already without goalkeeper David James, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Rio Ferdinand, Theo Walcott, Ashley Cole, and Emile Heskey. David Beckham is absent due to club commitments with the Los Angeles Galaxy.
The game at the Khalifa International Stadium will give the squad’s fringe players an opportunity to shine and put real pressure on the current players as there is only one more friendly match to play before the world cup campaign begins.
To win the match England is 13/5 with Bluesq and Brazil is 6/5 with Betfred. The draw is 5/2 with Skybet.
