England v USA Preview
England face the USA on Wednesday in the first of two international friendlys before Euro 2008 starts, playing Trinidad and Tobago four days later.
New England boss Fabio Capello has told how he is happy at being able to stay with the squad for an extended period, staying with them until the 1 June trip to Trinidad and Tobago.
Capello has continued his policy of rotating the captain’s armband before making a final decision on who his permanent recruit will be. He has selected john Terry as the captain to face USA. He said of the choice: "It is a good decision for John Terry after last Wednesday, which was not nice for him. He has played very well in training and when I told him he would be captain he was very, very happy. As a captain I think it is important to be a leader, and John Terry is a leader."
England v USA Betting and Odds Preview
From a betting perspective the match is intriguing, as England have been poor in recent times, but the newly managed squad will be looking to restore faith in the national side. In spite of that, the 8/1 for a USA win offered by VC Bet does represent value. An England win seems short at 4/9 with most bookmakers. VC Bet also lead the market odds for a draw at 18/5, which is likely to be heavily backed. To top it off, VC Bet are offering refunds on all first goalscorer bets if your player score at any time. Don’t forget the £100 free bet on offer for all new customers.
One longer odds bet that may interest a few punters would be England to lead at half time, and go on to lose or draw the game. Paddy Power give odds of 90/1 for England to go on and lose which is not out of the question. England are likely to come out the stronger side, starting a strong 11, and would be expected to lead at half time. As with all international friendlys, we can expect a lot of substitutions, and a disjointed England could easily concede a couple of goals.
If you are feeling more patriotic, taking England -1 at 33/40 may be a good option. Find the best odds on all these England v USA bets and more using our odds comparison service.
