England outclass Trinidad and Tobago

2nd June, 2008

England cruised to a 3-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday evening after a number of high-profile names were left to start their summer holidays early.

David Beckham was made captain in his 102nd England game, and he will be happy with his team’s performance. Despite the heat and insignificance of the game, the squad did put some good moves together and could have had more than the three goals. Trinidad and Tobago’s defence looked pedestrian at times, with poor marking from crosses and set pieces.

It only took 12 minutes for England to make the breakthrough, as Gareth Barry volleyed home from close range after good work out of the left from Downing and Bridge. It only took another four minutes for England to net the second goal, when Defoe converted a ball put along the floor by Downing. There were a couple of chances before the first half finished, but the third goal, and Defoe’s second, came after half time. A David Bentley cross was controlled and converted coolly to put the game well beyond Trinidad and Tobago.

England’s squad will be grateful for the end of a long season, but will not enjoy watching Euro 2008 in front of a TV rather than in person. The start of the tournament is less than a week away, keep an eye out for our Euro 2008 Odds and Betting Preview soon.
