England Look To Continue Momentum

10th September, 2007

After England's crushing 3-0 defeat of Israel in a Euro 2008 qualifier on Saturday, the players and boss Steve McLaren have spoken out, looking to carry the momentum into Wednesday's game against Russia. All have acknowledged that Russia will pose a sterner test, and that the team must not be complacent.

Despite the lengthy injury list, including the likes of Beckham, Lampard, Rooney and Hargreaves, McLaren stated the performance "sets the bar". He went on to say: "Given the pressure beforehand and the fact it was our most important game so far, one we had to win, then yes, it probably was the best performance since I have been in the job." McLaren still accepts that there is much to be done in the remaining Euro 2008 qualifiers.

England now sit third in Group E on 17 points, level will Israel, who have played an extra game. Croatia and Russia lead the group with 20 and 18 points respectively. England are now 3/1 to win the group outright at Totesport.
