Davydenko Wins Appeal

13th November, 2007

Nikolay Davydenko has won his appeal against a fine for “lack of effort” at the St Petersburg Open. The $2,000 penalty was rescinded following an ATP investigation.

After a shock 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 loss to Marin Cilic in October, the Russian was hit with fine, which Davydenko has strongly denied, leading to his appeal.

Gayle David Bradshaw, the ATP's executive vice president for rules and competition, said: "Following an extensive review of the match between Nikolay Davydenko and Martin Cilic that included a full video analysis, it was decided that Davydenko's appeal should be upheld and the $2,000 fine rescinded.”

Davydenko is not completely cleared yet, as he is still under investigation after unusual betting patterns during his loss to Martin Vassallo Arguello in August at the Poland Open.

Davydenko is now the least fancied player to win the Shanghai Masters Cup, at 169/1 with Betfair, his next game against the favourite Federer at 5/8 no doubt contributing to the odds. Our odds comparison service brings you all the odds for the matches and outright winner at the Shanghai Masters.
